Basic Subnetting Concepts - CISCO CCNA
We all know that the IPv4 addresses are just about to finish, Yes there is an emerging use of IPv6 but there is still about 70-80% usage of IPv4 in the globe, so what can we do???
We can do Sub netting....
So,the first question is What is Sub netting??
Sub netting is a process of dividing whole IPv4 pool provided by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in different different small parts for efficiently use of the IP range...
How it can be done??
There are different methods to do so.....
We all know that IPv4 Address has two major parts 1.Network part 2.Host Part
In Class Ful IP addressing there are mainly 3 classes to deal with (ORIGINALLY THERE ARE 5)
Class A:-NHHH; Class B:-NNHH; Class C:-NNNH (N-Network & H-Host)
So, As per the Sub netting as concern there is some other name called CIDR (Classless Inter Domain Routing)
So, if you know how much hosts are in perticular department we can calculate the IP requirement for that perticular department and than we can edit in sub net mask value and thus we can efficiently use our IP pool.
It looks difficult right?? But it's not so....
Suppose we have only 4 hosts than we can give Sub net mask like this 255.255.255.248 (It gives six hosts availability which can enough) instead of give like this 255.255.255.0 (It's not an efficient) same process is done with higher no.of hosts are there.
We can easily do the sub netting by learning the following tables.
